Hello, I know there are a lot of sites/posts out there about the KERNELSTACKINPAGEERROR blue screen of death, but since there are so many causes for this I was hoping that with extra information someone could help point me in the right direction. I am running Windows XP Pro with all of the latest updates and haven't made any changes to my hardware or software recently. The blue screen usually is not random.

I got a blue screen of death with a error of KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR and the computer shut down. Now I go to restart it and all I get is A disk error occurred.

For the most part my computer runs fine. There are a few things that always cause the blue screen: trying to install SP3 for Office 2003, opening Napster's music service, playing certain mp3 files in Winamp, and trying to do a hard drive backup with Western Digital's backup software. The exact code is: 0x00000077 (0xC0000185, 0xC0000185, 0x00000000, 0x00FCF000). According to Norton there are no viruses on my computer.

I tried running chkdsk on a system reboot and chkdsk will get all the way to stage 4 (verifying data) and freeze at 13%. I have left the computer on for a day and it won't go any further. The hard drive light blinks on and off about every second but it doesn't seem like it is doing much. The hard drive is about two and a half years old, but I don't hear any clicking noises. (I know this doesn't rule out a bad hard drive or bad blocks, but it is encouraging) I fear that the only solution is to reformat and reinstall Windows. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
