Where you downloaded it from shouldn't matter. The registration code you got from MS is tied to the machine and user from which you used to send the registration request (from the Help menu I believe). So unless you're trying to use a registration code that you got after registering the product on another machine it should just work. You can try uninstalling and reinstalling if you like. I don't expect it to help though. You could also simply try to register it again using the Help menu. That might resolve your problem as well and would be quicker.
Also be sure to take the registration code sent to you and register it with VS (through Help I believe) after you get the e-mail confirmation. Michael Taylor - 10/1/07. If you want to install Visual Studio 2005 on Windows 7, two updates you mentioned is essential for Visual Studio 2005 stability.
